This publication (2nd Edition, 2012) covers Property Insurance, Liability Insurance, War and Allied Perils, Financing and Leasing, and The Airline Finance/Lease Contract Endorsement. It sets out in plain language the scope of each category of coverage with commentary on application.

It is essential reading for all those involved in managing airlines as well as manufacturers and the vast range of companies that make equipment for aircraft, modify existing aircraft or service them.

Peter Viccars spent over thirty-six years in the Insurance Industry. Born in 1946, he started work at the Corporation of Lloyd’s in 1964. In 1966 he joined a marine syndicate at Lloyd’s. When the Syndicate ventured into aviation, he was allowed to “note” risks for the Aviation Underwriter and thus began a fascination with Aviation Insurance. In 1970 he joined the Aviation Division of a major Lloyd’s Broker. Starting as a closing clerk, he ultimately became Chief Operating Officer of the Division. Early in his career in the broking house, he was offered the chance to specialize in airline policy wordings. From this initial involvement, he concentrated on the technical insurance aspects of aviation related matters with particular reference to the insurance considerations of contracts and agreements, especially those involving the financing and leasing of aircraft and related equipment.

Through his involvement with the banking and financing community, Peter became aware of the requirement for professional advisory services relative to the insurance considerations of aviation and aerospace financing transactions. He founded an advisory company which during its twenty years of operation acted as insurance advisor/ consultant on aviation insurance matters to many of the leading banks, leasing companies and other institutions as well as their respective legal advisors.

Peter had made no secret of his desire and intention to seek early retirement and this objection was achieved in October 2000 after more than thirty years in Aviation Insurance.

Peter’s technical knowledge and expertise were well known in the Aviation Insurance market and he served several terms as a member of the Lloyd’s Insurance Brokers’ Committee (now the London & International Insurance Brokers’ Association (LIIBA)) Aviation Executive Committee and was Chairman of the Technical Sub Committee for over ten years.

In July 1997, he was elected a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
